Coon Fork Lake Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 44.70006   Longitude: -91.01811
This spillway empties into Coon Fork Creek which eventually flows into the Eau Claire River.  From Augusta go east on Highway 12 for 1.7 miles and turn left on County Road CF; then travel 4.05 miles on County Road CF to the spillway that will be on the right.  There is a parking lot on the right and a 100 yards long paved path to the spillway.

Dells Millpond Spillway:  View Video
Dells Millpond Spillway is in East Central Eau Claire County.  Our Wisconsin Waterfalls Travel Guide provides detailed directions of where to find the spillway  falls along with GPS coordinates of the site.  When needed the travel guide also provides parking availability information, walking trail details and other information about the site.  More information can be found on the web at www.dellsmill.com.  They claim that the photo at left is the most photographed site in Wisconsin and the midwest.

Fall Creek Pond Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 44.76923   Longitude: -91.27950
This spillway in Fall Creek is just north of the town of Fall Creek.  From downtown Fall Creek go north on N. State Street (County Road K) for 0.33 miles and turn left onto Mill Road, then 0.14 miles on Mill Road to a parking lot on the right.  From the parking lot walk 60 yards northeast along the lake side to the spillway... the land on the right of this area is private property so be respectful and do not trespass on their property.

Lake Eau Claire Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 44.75666   Longitude: -91.14183
Go north 5.07 miles on Route 27 from Route 12 in Augusta to County Road SD and turn right; then in 0.27 miles on Road SD turn left into an Eau Claire County Park... there is a $3 daily entrance fee to visit the park.  The spillway is in the southwest corner of the park.  If you don't want to pay the $3 fee go on north 0.36 miles and turn right into a short road that will take you to a spillway viewpoint. 
Or, you can see the spillway upriver as you cross the Eau Claire River on Route 27.

Lake Altoona Spillway:  View Video

Lake Altoona is located in Altoona (eastern suburb of Eau Claire) and is on the Eau Claire River system.  The spillway is visible from the south side of the river but almost it is impossible to get down to the rivers edge... the north side is accessible.  Exit Highway 53 at Route 312 exit, go East, take the 1st right on Black Ave., then left and right on S. 41st Ave., then right on Hotchkiss Ave., then right on County Road QQ 120 feet to parking area on the left.  Walk down the gravel road 1/4 mile to the river.

Xcel Xydro Spillway & Dells Pond Rapids:  View Video

The picture at left shows the Dells Pond Rapids with Xcel Xydro Spillway in the backgound.  This area is north of the Madison Street Bridge over the Chippewa River in downtown Eau Claire.  You can get down to the rivers edge East side by going north on Forest Street from Madison Street to Huyssen Street toward the river, then follow the path north down to the river.

Before you visit a waterfall it is helpful to know the surrounding landscape... we use two free internet services to help.  www.topoquest.com provides free topo maps which can be enlarged and printed.  Access Topoquest and then click "find maps" on their website, put in GPS from our data (without the minus sign), click "search", then click on the first USGS map that has a DRG name, click on the map itself and select zoom level.  To navigate the area... if you want to look at an area left of the map, click on the left edge of the map, etc.  Below each map will be a listing of features shown on the map... a little work and you will learn their system (sometime clicking on the edge will not take you to an adjacent map).

We also use Google Earth.  It is a free service you can download at https://www.google.com/earth/.  Like Topoquest, you put in GPS data (or city, or county and state) and it will "fly" you to the location requested.

There are lots of internet sites that list facts about Wisconsin... one of the best is the Wisconsin DNR site http://dnr.wi.gov/ which has all kinds of info.  Another good site is www.discoverwisconsin.com.
