Arkdale Spillway:  View Video

This spillway is east of Necedah on the north side of the small town of Arkdale.  Heading north out of Arkdale on Route 21 you will come to a bridge over the Big Roche A Cri Creek.  Just north of the bridge is a pull-off area to park and walk back to the stream crossing using a snowmobile trail to its bridge over the stream.  From that vantage point you can take photographs as shown on the left and in the video.  Note that there is significant rapids just below the spillway. 

Castle Rock Spillway:
Latitude: 43.86502   Longitude: -89.95628
This spillway is northeast of Mauston on the Wisconsin River. From Mauston go east 10.3 miles on Route 82 to County Road Z, turn left (North) and drive 6.98 miles to Edgewood Drive, turn left on Edgewood and drive 0.9 miles to the spillway parking lot.  This is a massive dam, power plant and spillway but without a boat there is no way to get a video of the spillway.  They have an area designated as shore fishing if you want to try your luck.

This spillway is NW of Necedah on the Wisconsin River... go east 2.74 miles from the intersection of Routes 21 and 80 in Necedah to 18th Avenue... go left (North) 1.06 miles to a parking area just below the spillway.  If you look close you can see a rainbow at the extreme right side of  the video.

Before you visit a waterfall it is helpful to know the surrounding landscape... we use two free internet services to help. provides free topo maps which can be enlarged and printed.  Access Topoquest and then click "find maps" on their website, put in GPS from our data (without the minus sign), click "search", then click on the first USGS map that has a DRG name, click on the map itself and select zoom level.  To navigate the area... if you want to look at an area left of the map, click on the left edge of the map, etc.  Below each map will be a listing of features shown on the map... a little work and you will learn their system (sometime clicking on the edge will not take you to an adjacent map).
We also use Google Earth.  It is a free service you can download at  Like Topoquest, you put in GPS data (or city, or county and state) and it will "fly" you to the location requested. 
There are lots of internet sites that list facts about Wisconsin... one of the best is the Wisconsin DNR site which has all kinds of info.  Another good site is
