Latitude: 45.97332   Longitude: -89.94158
This spillway of about 10 inches in height probably sets the record for the shortest spillway in Wisconsin.  The "spillway" is adjacent to the Old Indian Village Road bridge.  The spillway is 2+ miles west of Lac Du Flambeau... from Lac Du Flambeau go 1.5 miles north on Route 47 and turn left (west) on Indian Village Road; in 1.9 miles you will come to a bridge over the effluent from Flambeau Lake... if you look to the southeast you will see another bridge over the adjacent Old Indian Village Road... adjacent to the bridge is the 10 inch spillway.

  Otter Rapids Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 45.90357   Longitude: -89.32079
From downtown Eagle River go 3.5 miles west on Route 70 and turn left onto Cloverland Drive.  Cloverland Drive is 0.1 miles long and leads to a parking lot from which you can view the spillway shown in the picture on the left.  There is a fishing pier and also a self guided tour of Otter Rapids Dam that explains the hydroelectric power generating plant at this location and its importance to the Wisconsin River System of power generation.

  Squaw Creek Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 45.91880   Longitude: -90.00156
This is not an exciting spillway, but if you are driving along Highway 70 in Vilas County you might as well stop for 2 minutes and check it out.
The spillway is 15.5 miles west of Woodruff on Route 70 just south of the Route 70 bridge over Squaw Creek.

Links & Helpful Hints...
Before you visit a waterfall it is helpful to know the surrounding landscape... we use two free internet services to help. provides free topo maps which can be enlarged and printed.  Access Topoquest and then click "find maps" on their website, put in GPS from our data (without the minus sign), click "search", then click on the first USGS map that has a DRG name, click on the map itself and select zoom level.  To navigate the area... if you want to look at an area left of the map, click on the left edge of the map, etc.  Below each map will be a listing of features shown on the map... a little work and you will learn their system (sometime clicking on the edge will not take you to an adjacent map).
We also use Google Earth.  It is a free service you can download at  Like Topoquest, you put in GPS data (or city, or county and state) and it will "fly" you to the location requested.
There are lots of internet sites that list facts about Wisconsin... one of the best is the Wisconsin DNR site which has all kinds of info.  Another good site is
