This 8 foot serene spillway is a beautiful site to visit.  Travel 7.3 miles west of the Route 81 river crossing in Beloit on Route 81 to Hanover Road (also know as County Road H) and turn left... then 1.04 miles south on H will take you to a parking area on the right where you will see the spillway.  There is also a park just north that could be investigated.

Latitude: 42.50564   Longitude: -89.03313
This 8 foot spillway is located near the center of Beloit just south of where Route 81 crosses the Rock River on Portland Avenue.  Park a block or so south of the spillway on Route 51 to get some good views of the spillway.  One of the parking lots in that area is private so do not park there or you might get towed.

Leota Lake Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 42.78605   Longitude: -89.30204
Leota Lake is located in Lake Leota Park on the north side of Evansville just off Route 14.  As you travel north on Route 14 turn left on N. Madison Street and then right to enter the park.  This is an unusual site where you can see 5 spillways at once (ranging from 1 foot to 8 foot as shown at left) and several more 1 or 2 foot spillways on downstream.  Restrooms are available and the park is a great place to stop and rest on your journey.

  Monteray Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 42.66972   Longitude: -89.03198
This 7 foot spillway is in the SW part of Janesville where Route 51 crosses the Rock River on Center Avenue.  This is a double spillway (one is under the bridge in the background right of the picture shown at left).  To access from the south river back park on Grand Avenue just south of the bridge and you will find an unmarked dirt path heading north thru the woods (the path is about 10 feet west of Center Avenue)... at the tracks you will find other unmarked paths leading down to the river.  The best view as shown here is from the south side of the river one block west of Route 51 on Riverside Street; then 1 block south on S. Washington Street to river; then walk to river.

Links & Helpful Hints...
Before you visit a waterfall it is helpful to know the surrounding landscape... we use two free internet services to help.  www.topoquest.com provides free topo maps which can be enlarged and printed.  Access Topoquest and then click "find maps" on their website, put in GPS from our data (without the minus sign), click "search", then click on the first USGS map that has a DRG name, click on the map itself and select zoom level.  To navigate the area... if you want to look at an area left of the map, click on the left edge of the map, etc.  Below each map will be a listing of features shown on the map... a little work and you will learn their system (sometime clicking on the edge will not take you to an adjacent map).
---------------
We also use Google Earth.  It is a free service you can download at https://www.google.com/earth/.  Like Topoquest, you put in GPS data (or city, or county and state) and it will "fly" you to the location requested.
---------------
There are lots of internet sites that list facts about Wisconsin... one of the best is the Wisconsin DNR site http://dnr.wi.gov/ which has all kinds of info.  Another good site is www.discoverwisconsin.com.
