  Echo Lake Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 42.68206   Longitude: -88.27712
Route 36 runs north-south thru the town of Burlington on Milwaukee Avenue.  Just north of downtown Milwaukee Avenue crosses a river and on the west is Echo Veterans Memorial Park... enter the park and park adjacent to the spillway that drains Echo Lake.  The effluent from Echo Lake drains into the Fox River 500 yards downstream.  Echo Lake is created from the effluents of White River and Honey Creek.

Horlicks Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 42.75244   Longitude: -87.82366
This 15 foot spillway is northwest of Racine in the Root River.  From the intersection of Routes 31 and 38 NW of Racine go 0.64 miles east on Route 38 and park in a commercial parking lot adjacent to the spillway (the spillway is 300 feet northeast of the intersection where you turned in to the parking lot).

Huening Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 42.76502   Longitude: -88.21286
This 5 foot spillway with a few ripples downstream is in the town of Waterford.  Route 83 runs east-west thru the town of Waterford on Main Street.  Just west of the Fox River bridge in Waterford go north on River Street to a parking lot adjacent to the spillway that empties into the Fox River.

Rochester Spillway:  View Video
Latitude: 42.73563   Longitude: -88.22601
You get 2 for 1 at this site in the Fox River... a spillway to the left and a rapids on its right.  From downtown Rochester go 2 blocks east of the Fox River and then go south on Rochester Street 3 blocks and turn right into Case Eagle Park... park at the first parking lot on the left and walk 50 feet south of the lot to a path down to the river.  They have a normal spillway with roller gates but to its east they have large rocks to create a quite beautiful rapids.

Before you visit a waterfall it is helpful to know the surrounding landscape... we use two free internet services to help.  www.topoquest.com provides free topo maps which can be enlarged and printed.  Access Topoquest and then click "find maps" on their website, put in GPS from our data (without the minus sign), click "search", then click on the first USGS map that has a DRG name, click on the map itself and select zoom level.  To navigate the area... if you want to look at an area left of the map, click on the left edge of the map, etc.  Below each map will be a listing of features shown on the map... a little work and you will learn their system (sometime clicking on the edge will not take you to an adjacent map).

We also use Google Earth.  It is a free service you can download at https://www.google.com/earth/.  Like Topoquest, you put in GPS data (or city, or county and state) and it will "fly" you to the location requested.

There are lots of internet sites that list facts about Wisconsin... one of the best is the Wisconsin DNR site http://dnr.wi.gov/ which has all kinds of info.  Another good site is www.discoverwisconsin.com.
